Jose Casenas is a Paralegal at Lawsmith Solicitors, having joined the firm in February 2023.

Jose graduated with a 2:1 LLB (Hons) Law degree from Swansea University’s Hilary Rodham Clinton School of Law in 2022. During his time at Swansea, he was selected to represent the university at the prestigious Michael Corkery QC Criminal Law Moot held at 5 Paper Buildings. He is an ambitious aspiring solicitor currently undertaking the Legal Practice Course (LPC) with an integrated Legal Masters (LLM) at BPP University, with the ultimate goal of qualifying as a solicitor.

Since joining Lawsmith, Jose has gained extensive experience in Immigration and Nationality Law, assisting solicitors with a wide range of matters. His work includes supporting leave-to-remain applications under the Skilled Worker Route, including applications involving switching and changes of employment, as well as entry clearance applications. He has assisted solicitors with applications under high net-worth applications, healthcare workers’ applications, human rights, spouse route, indefinite leave to remain, and the naturalisation process. He has also provided valuable assistance in responding to Home Office queries concerning sponsor licence applications and preparing Administrative Reviews to challenge unlawful decisions.

In addition to his expertise in Immigration Law, Jose has worked on a variety of Civil Litigation matters. He is adept at managing client relationships, responding to instructions with diligence, and liaising effectively with opposing solicitors and King’s Counsel (senior barristers). He also attends courts and tribunals to assist solicitors and barristers during hearings. His responsibilities have included drafting defences, preparing witness statements, drafting orders, and assembling paginated bundles for submission to the courts and service on the opposing party in line with the Civil Procedure Rules (CPR).

Jose has also developed proficiency in several other areas of law, including Insolvency, Winding-up Petitions, and Intellectual Property Law, and has dealt with disputes before the Company Names Tribunal, further enhancing his diverse legal experience.
